The PSU DOST1 Food Innovation Center joins HANDA PILIPINAS Luzon Leg and 2024 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) of the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office 1 last July 3-5, 2024 at the Plaza Del Norte, Paoay, Ilocos Norte.
Among the exhibits shown at the event are the newly developed foods for disaster and relief operations which was also discussed and showcased during the technology forum on human well-being and wealth creation featuring the 4 different variants of ready-to-eat packs in pouches which are the binagoongang bangus, onion longganisa, ginisang buro and vegetable-based mungbean soup. Convenience packs processed using freeze drying methods were introduced such as the freeze-dried rice, and mushroom rice meal in 2 variants namely, honey barbecue and pinoy adobo flavors. These packs can be conveniently eaten by adding hot water and covering for 5 minutes or thru the use of table top stove or microwave for preparation.
Potential partners were tapped during the exhibit to raise awareness that disaster foods developed by the center is now ready for pilot production. These products are promoted as additional packs to be included in GO bags distributed by local government units and other centers working with disaster and emergency situations.
